The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Turns out David Spade is a pretty cool guy. Assuming your idea of a cool guy is donating massive amounts of firepower to law enforcement officers, which I do.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Phoenix Police Department has gotten some high-powered goodies courtesy of actor David Spade.

The one-time Phoenix resident donated $100,000 so that the department can buy approximately 50 AR-15 rifles.

Spade said he wanted to make the donation after seeing a TV news report about Phoenix officers having to buy their own rifles. Spade grew up in the Phoenix area and graduated from Arizona State University.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Alan Hill says the rifles will be given to patrol officers and that the agency was grateful for the gifts.

“These guys need to be able to do their jobs and I am just happy I could help,” Spade said in a statement released by his publicist.

I’m know some people don’t think this type of weapon should be in the hands of street cops, but you’re just wrong. First of all, despite my cute kitten above (who is actually firing an AK-47), the AR-15 is not a machine gun. It’s just a rifle, albeit a cool-looking one, and it fires one shot at a time. So it’s no worse than any rifle except that it looks scary to some week-kneed folks. But more importantly, it’s just a fact of life that in our topsy-turvy world today sometimes officers need more than a handgun to deal with the bad, and sometimes just fricken evil, guys and these serve that purpose fairly well.

At least until you can bring in the rapid fire big guns.

H/T to Three Donia.

Guaranteed NOT To Strike Fear In The Hearts Of Our Enemies

Barry is going to bring the terrorists at GITMO back to the US for criminal trials.

President-elect Barack Obama’s advisers are quietly crafting a proposal to ship dozens, if not hundreds, of imprisoned terrorism suspects to the United States to face criminal trials, a plan that would make good on his promise to close the Guantanamo Bay prison but could require creation of a controversial new system of justice.

During his campaign, Obama described Guantanamo as a “sad chapter in American history” and has said generally that the U.S. legal system is equipped to handle the detainees. But he has offered few details on what he planned to do once the facility is closed.

Under plans being put together in Obama’s camp, some detainees would be released and many others would be prosecuted in U.S. criminal courts.

A third group of detainees — the ones whose cases are most entangled in highly classified information — might have to go before a new court designed especially to handle sensitive national security cases, according to advisers and Democrats involved in the talks. Advisers participating directly in the planning spoke on condition of anonymity because the plans are not final.

Yeah, that’ll work. There is nothing a terrorist fears more than being tried in our legal system what with all the ACLU types offering free legal services and a liberally-controlled Department of Justice and federal judges. Not to mention that he is going to let many of them out of bail. Bwaaaaa, they stand about as much chance of showing-up for trial as that illegal alien driving without a license and insurance who back-ended your car has of showing up for traffic court next month.

In other words, no chance in hell.

There are so many problems with this it is hard to list them all, but here are three. First, as I pointed out, many of them will just disappear into our neighborhoods once they are released on bail. And doesn’t that make you feel all warm and fuzzy.

Secondly, you cannot try military combatants in civilian courts. It won’t work procedurally or constitutionally or in any way and it is destined to result in mis-trials and dismissed charges because of things the military did – perfectly legal things under that system and in a time of war – which are not legal under the civilian system. It will be a cluster-you know what.

Finally, many of these murderers will go free simply because the government cannot allow classified information to be released to the public (and our enemies – by which I mean the terrorists, not the New York Times – well, okay, them too) and as a result the charges will have to be dropped. Yeah, I know they say there will be a special category for these guys, but with a liberal judge and the ACLU that will work for about a nanosecond.

And finally, these guys – the really bad ones – once they get their mis-trial, will be stuck here in the USA because no other nation will take them. Hell, they won’t even take the not-so-bad ones.

Once again say hi to your new neighbors.

It’s insanity.

No worries though, as I can see it having an impact already.

Osama bin Laden is planning an attack against the United States that will “outdo by far” September 11, an Arab newspaper in London has reported.

And according to a former senior Yemeni al-Qaeda operative, the terrorist organisation has entered a “positive phase”, reinforcing specific training camps around the world that will lead the next “wave of action” against the West.

The warning, on the front page of an Arabic newspaper published in London, Al-Quds Al-Arabi — and widely reported in the major Italian papers — quotes a person described as being “very close to al-Qaeda” in Yemen.

The paper is edited by Abdel al-Bari Atwan, who is said to be the last journalist to interview Osama bin Laden in 1996. According to the report, bin Laden is himself closely following preparations for an attack against the US and aims to “change the face of world politics and economics”. The operative is quoted as saying that “this will be shown by the fact that we now control a major part of the south of Somalia”.

The ex-operative says he remains in contact with current chiefs of the organisation in Yemen and that only six months ago bin Laden had sent a message to all jihad cells in the Arab world which asked them not to interact with their governments or local political parties and to deny any request for mediation or formal talks.

The source also said that during the next few days the terrorist organisation may send a sign of its violent intentions.

When will these liberal fools learn that the only thing these murdering terrorists understand is strength through firepower. The only way to win the war on terror, as proved over the past several years is with the overwhelming might and talent of our military.

A clue would be that there has not been ONE terror attack on US soil since 9/11. You’d think they would pick-up on that, but no, they are too involved in screwing the country up with that moronic mortgage bailout.

Our civilian legal system, and to a lesser extent our law enforcement system, is simply not designed to deal with this issue. It is a military one and should remain so.

You hear that sound? It’s faint now, but getting louder. Listen for it. Hear it?

It’s the sound of our nation becoming less-safe.

The Ingenuity of Thieves

And, no I’m not talking about ACORN or the Democrats this time.

Hat-tip to Xenophilia.

Disturbing Things In The News

1. Truth Squads composed of county prosecutors, circuit attorneys, and county sheriffs roaming Missouri for people who might be saying bad things about Barry? Remind me to not drive around Missouri until after the election and then, if Barry wins, for the next four to eight years.

2. Somali pirates suffered skin burns, lost hair and fell gravely ill “within days” of boarding the MV Iran Deyanat. Some of them died. Transterrestrial Musings jokes that it is probably just scurvy, but like him I am thinking chem weapons or radiation poisoning. Oh well, no worries, I am sure Barry can just have a sit-down with Jack Sparrow or whoever their version of the Pirate King is and work it out. Them and the Iranians that is. No credit given to anyone else, of course.

Always Remember

Those who died, at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and on United Flight 93, that terrible day.

It’s my belief that a strong offense is the best defense against this happening to us again. Take the fight to them. Whoever they are. Wherever they are. Whatever it takes. A law enforcement-centric attitude to the terrorist threat is the wrong one. It must be military and law enforcement, but mostly military. Yes, it is costly, in terms of money, resources, and sadly, the lives of our brave warriors.

But freedom is worth the price. Any price.

God Bless America and damn our enemies to hell.

Cops And Professors

If you read Glenn Reynolds you know he’s not fond of traffic cameras. Or cops for that matter. And while he usually puts forth a fair argument for that lack of affection, this line seems a little too harsh.

“This sense of entitlement and exceptionalism among law enforcement is a good reason to cut taxes and buy a gun . . . .”

Then again, I could say the exact same thing about many professors working at state financed colleges these days. And believe me, having two kids in Tennessee state colleges right now, I could use some of those tax dollars back.

Officer Shoots Kid Who Attacked Him With Baseball Bat

Serves him right. Kid should have known better than to bring a baseball bat to a gunfight.
