Little ‘Adolf Hitler’ Denied Birthday Cake at N.J. Grocery

Has to be the strangest headline of the day. The story isn’t any less strange either. Then again it is New Jersey so maybe it isn’t that strange after all.

EASTON, Pennsylvania — The father of 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, denied a birthday cake with the child’s full name on it by one New Jersey supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance.

Heath Campbell and his wife, Deborah, are upset not only with the decision made by the nearby ShopRite, but also with an outpouring of angry Internet postings in response to a local newspaper article about the cake.

Heath Campbell, who is 35, said in an interview Tuesday that people should look forward, not back, and accept change.

“They need to accept a name. A name’s a name. The kid isn’t going to grow up and do what (Hitler) did,” he said.

After ShopRite refused the request for the cake as inappropriate, the Campbells got a cake decorated at a Wal-Mart in Pennsylvania, Deborah Campbell said.

About 12 people attended the birthday party on Sunday, according to Heath Campbell.

The Campbells’ other two children also have unusual names: JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell turns 2 in a few months and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell will be 1 in April.

Heath Campbell said he named his son after Adolf Hitler because he liked the name and because “no one else in the world would have that name.”

Campbell said his ancestors are German and that he has lived all his life in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, which is across the Delaware River from Easton.

Maybe it’s just me but I think that when you name your child after perhaps history’s most infamous mass murderer things are not always going to go well for him. From little things like buying birthday cakes to, I don’t know, obtaining a job that doesn’t involve menial labor or marrying a gal who doesn’t have White Power tattoos plastered over most of her, what will probably be, substantial body. Granted the later result might be something Mom and Dad would be happy about – their daughter’s middle name is Ayran Nation after all  – but still his parent’s decision pretty much assures Little Adolf’s life is going to be at best difficult and at worst a living hell.

It’s sad because he really is a cute kid. Too bad he will have to shave all that hair off to be fully initiated into the club.

  1. I hope young Hitler grows up and marries a nice Jewish girl, and JoyceLynn starts dating black guys in junior high.

  2. Boy. People who would name their kids the way these people have named theirs are pretty scary, in my book. Can you say “fixated”? I like Trekreb’s thinking.

  3. Those parents don´t have to say the guts, what they are: Fascists. Calling another child Ayran Nation (which is the declaration of killing all people with different opinion, color of skin) should be a case for government. At least in Germany it would be. Most Germans can´t understand, why the our Nazi-past is such a fashion to some Americans.
Poor kids growing up with such parents

  4. […] 18, 2008 by groovyvic I’ve seen this story about little Adolf Hitler and how he can’t get a birthday cake, and like others, I’m stunned at the name these […]

  5. There is once an African-American police officer named Hitler M. McLeod. He got killed in the line of duty. According to http://www.odmp.org/officer/9075-police-officer-hitler-m.-mcleod.

  6. Adolf is nothing new. There are variations of it, and there were two actors. Adolphus Raymondus Vernon Agopsowicz, best known as John Vernon, and Adolphus Jean Sweet, best known as Dolph Sweet.

  7. He named his son Hitler because he liked that name and “no one else in the world would have that name.” I doubt those were the only reasons. What kind of beliefs are those children growing up with? What makes them so certain that they are better than every one else because of their ancestry? One can only hope they do not share their parents’ beliefs and do not admire a man responsible for the deaths of more than six million people.

  8. boy people who name their child after a well hated dictator are just asking to be ignored i feel sorry for the little girl who has to live life carrying that name
