Under Attack

With all these intolerant liberals, atheists, and radical Muslims attacking Christianity and our elected officials caving-in to those attacks at every turn, I swear it will only be another fifty years or so before Christians will be drawing fish in the dirt again to acknowledge themselves to their fellow believers.  Fortunately I will be long gone by that time, but still, I worry for my sons and their children.

Ugh, well, until then, Merry Christmas.

  1. I don’t think it will be 50 years; I think it will be much sooner than that.

I also don’t think we can use the fish symbol, anymore; it’s too common, appearing on too many cars, ads by Christian-owned businesses, etc. We might have to adopt a slogan. Can’t think of one, now, except the old ’50’s anti-communism one: “Better dead than Red.” That doesn’t quite do it, but it may be close!

  2. I hope it’s much sooner than that, but I fear it will be a long time before we’re rid of religion.

  3. Don’t you mean Christianity, Steve? Because I don’t see many of you non-believers attacking Islam. Not that I blame you really, getting your head cut off is a whole hell of a lot scarier than blog posts like mine complaining about you, isn’t it?

  4. No, I mean religion in general. Christianity is one of the more peaceful religions (although with some obvious negative aspects), and nobody will dispute that. The problem is, the very existence of moderate religions like Christianity allows fundamentalist religions (such as Islam) to exist. If there were no moderate religions, the radical sects would have nothing to base their views on. They would be seen for the ignorant hateful people that they are.

Furthermore, while Christianity is less radical in some forms than Islam, its believers are no more rational. Bottomline, the truth is that nobody has any idea whatsoever how or why the universe was created. We have no idea. In order to fill in this lack of knowledge, every culture invents its own belief system, as evidenced by the thousands of possible religions there are to choose from. For any rational person to pick ONE of those possibilities and claim that that is the correct one is simply absurd. Atheists are simply stepping back from the fray admitting our own ignorance. “Nobody knows” – that’s all there is to say.
