Barry’s Infomercial

Did you watch Barry last night? I didn’t. Neither did loving wife. But what is interesting is that oldest son, a big liberal and Obama supporter, didn’t watch it either. Which begs the question, exactly who did watch it? And how many “whos” at that.

Anyway, here’s an interesting take on the infomercial and Barry’s need to be doing it at all.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think the night worked for him. The last time anyone did this — Ross Perot — it was so weird a world unto itself (strange-looking guy with pie charts) that, beached between Cybill and Murphy Brown (or whatever it was back then), it had a kind of integrity and distinctiveness. This time round, The O Show followed by the Phillies followed by Jon Stewart cumulatively undermined the candidate.

For a start, the show itself was slick only in a drearily generic way. The waving wheat and music made it seem like a standard campaign commercial, only longer — “It’s Morning, Noon And Night In America,” which is a big enough problem thanks to the media’s Obama cultists without the candidate himself piling on. As for the King Barack Meets [Insert Name Of Downtrodden Subject Here] stuff, aside from the fact that I don’t recognize the hellhole this country apparently is, there’s something faintly ridiculous in doing it in the middle of the Phillies winning the World Series. Maybe on Super Bowl Sunday, instead of Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunctioning, Obama could come out and interview people about how our entire rotten society is malfunctioning. And then The Daily Show kibbitzing stepped all over the infomercial even more.

This is an amazing race. The incumbent president has approval ratings somewhere between Robert Mugabe and the ebola virus. The economy is supposedly on the brink of global Armageddon. McCain has only $80 million to spend, while Obama’s burning through $600 mil as fast as he can, and he doesn’t really need to spend a dime given the wall-to-wall media adoration. And tonight Chris Matthews’ doctors announced that his leg tingle has metastasized leaving his entire body like a vibrating cellphone whose ringtone is locked on “I’m In Love, I’m In Love, I’m In Love, I’m In Love, I’m In Love With A Wonderful Guy.”

And yet an old cranky broke loser is within two or three points of the King of the World. Strange.

Plus the AP rips it. And the AP isn’t exactly in the tank for McCain.

WASHINGTON — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was less than upfront in his half-hour commercial Wednesday night about the costs of his programs and the crushing budget pressures he would face in office.

Obama’s assertion that “I’ve offered spending cuts above and beyond” the expense of his promises is accepted only by his partisans. His vow to save money by “eliminating programs that don’t work” masks his failure throughout the campaign to specify what those programs are — beyond the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

From what I have read I don’t think this thing bought him one vote. And at a reported $1 million a minute that was one expensive nothing.

As an aside, it is amazing how much it annoys liberals that I call Obama by his first name. Well, the nickname of his first name really.  It’s so amazing and amusing to me I have kept doing it long after it lost its original zip.   I keep getting told it is disrespectful. Disrespectful?  It’s his fricken first name.  He used it in high school.   He’s not the Pope. He’s not a king. Hell, he isn’t even president yet. He’s just a citizen like me. Well, except for the racist and terrorist friends and the megalomania. And so if I want to call him Barry I will call him Barry. Besides after the absolutely despicable things they have called President Bush over the years, trust me when I say I am being kind to him.

And if he is elected president. Well, I will still refer to him as Barry. President Barry. That’s the ticket.

  1. Not us Democrats now blame it all on the GOP and Bush . I was watching Fox News and they had a Member of the DNC . They were asked about the economy and how we got here they blamed the GOP and G Bush . Even though they have had the control of the congress for two years. They claim the taxes were going to go up to clean up the mess . You dont raise taxes on a down dollar. McCain knows that . So McCain is cutting taxes where Obama wants to raise them . He is showing his inexperience. Lets see you cant hear it , you cant see the video , we dont want to answer the hard questions. We can blame everyone else , we can lie about the plans to not raise taxes. We can give money to Acorn and they can make up the votes we need wink wink. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE CRAP THE Obama IS COOKING. I will remind you by the time cigar totting Bill C was done it took us two years to fix it. We dont need a welfare state . We dont need a man who has ties to both a foreign and domestic terrorist. And when asked they clam up. The bottom line is

  2. TRO …

I’m astonished you can’t understand who was watching last night.

I saw the infomercial last night BUT I had NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE that it was coming on NOR did I just happen on it via channel surfing. This obviously proves you are NOT sports-minded … I gotta check back on your conversation with TREKREB concerning Ole Miss fans on that.

What occurred last night was a BRILLIANT campaign ploy EXECUTED by the Obama campaign !!!

I was tuning in last night to catch the final 3 innings of GAME 5 of the Major League Baseball WORLD SERIES !!! They aired the infomercial just prior to the game. So MILLIONS of baseball fans were tuned in and SAW Obama !!!

The game was suspended Monday night in the bottom of the 6th inning due to rain. It was SNOWED OUT Tuesday. The Philadelphia Phillies were leading 3 games to 1 prior to this historic game. No World Series game had ever been suspended like this after it was already an official game (5 innings played). INTEREST in this game was HIGH !!!

With the Phillies needing this one game to clinch the championship over Tampa Bay and leading 2-1 going into the top of the 6th (and rain pouring down) … the Rays tied the game … so they couldn’t call the game being a TIE. At least the commisioner determined that would not happen and that the game would be completed !!!

So the exciting conclusion occurred last night following the Obama infomercial.
The Phillies went on to win 4-3 … only their second World Series win (1980 was 1st time).

So the timing was BRILLIANT by Obama AND the location was even moreso … Pennsylvania … the state so much energy has been spent in this past week !!!

And guess where Obama was … in Florida with Slick Willy at a late night rally that didn’t start until after the ballgame was over !!! So the baseball audience was hit with Obama’s blitz before and after.

This guy is gonna win on campaign strategy … maybe …

Where was McCain … on Larry King’s show ?

Wake up TRO … this is the home stretch and McCain gets isolated on one show on one network ???
You want this kind of strategist running this country ???

    You say NOBAMA …
I say … well … I will not actually make up my mind until I step into the voting booth.
I am giving McCain a fair chance … but he’s got to get off his ASS and make the push thru the home stretch.

  3. Ed, you have drunk so much Kool Aid you must be pissing red.

But let’s go with your belief that everyone waiting on the Series sat around watching Barry’s little infomercial instead of switching to the Lifetime channel or having a root canal before the game.

The question I have is, after all that Barry as said. After all that he has supposedly done in his great life. After all the commercials we have seen, including this one which is right out of some 1984-like novel. After the bad economic news we are getting lately. After the Iraq War I know you did not support and a Bush Presidency that you have always hated. After all this. Why the hell hasn’t he convinced you to vote for him?

You keep saying you haven’t made up your mind. You say you want to give McCain a chance if he would just “insert some miracle here” that convinces you to do so.

Assuming I believe you, which with all due respect, I don’t, but assuming I do. What is holding you back from voting for The One?

    I just gotta know.

Because if you are indeed still undecided, even after this wonderful 30 minute show you said you watched last night. This brilliant political move you said Barry just made.

Then Barry has a big problem.

Because if you really are still undecided – you, a solid Democrat. Someone who I know who is pretty damn liberal on most issues – then Barry does not have the solid lock on this election we have been told he has. Because that means there are thousands . . . millions(?) . . . of Democrats and left-leaning Independents like you who are just not sure and will walk into that voting booth on Tuesday and at the last second say to themselves, “I like the guy but he’s just not ready.”

And frankly if Barry hasn’t closed with them by now there is no way he can.

The polls are tightening. Barry is not a sure thing any longer.

And perhaps it is because of people like you who like the guy but who just can’t like him enough to pull the lever for him.

  4. Frankly, I can’t remember a presidential election where I have been so indecisive !!!

I have always voted one way or the other and KNOWN weeks … even months before who I was going to vote for. This time I really like both candidates from a character perspective … It’s the issues where I have trouble.

I’d like to have McCain’s toughness as a negotiator in foreign affairs.
I’d like to have Obama’s economic approach.
We can’t have both … we must decide one or the other and live with that.

I have followed this campaign more closely than ANY other. I have participated in discussions on your blog and read you opinions and those of linked blogs. I have watched most of the network co verage … every debate … because either way … this will be a HISTORIC election. On one side we may have a female VP … on the other a black Prez … neither has EVER happened … but one WILL !!!

I decided before the debates that I would not pick a side until it was time to vote.
That way I could be as unbiased as possible …

Here’s my Presidential voting history …

1976 voted for John Anderson – Independent
    1980 don’t think I voted
1984 voted for Ronald Reagan – Republican
1988 voted for George Bush – Republican
1992 voted for Bill Clinton – Democrat
1996 voted for Bill Clinton – Democrat
2000 voted for Al Gore – Democrat
2004 voted for John Kerry – Democrat
    2008 undecided

I wouldn’t try to read anything into what looks like a Democratic trend …
I guess I just decided that I did not like the Bush’s at some point.

I DO think the polls will narrow … history proves that.
I do think there are many Americans who are still undecided … that’s why Obama’s message last night was so brilliant. The timing that is … McCain has been put on the defensive big time.
Let’s see HOW he reacts …

  5. “I’d like to have Obama’s economic approach.”

You like socialism? The man is a socialist, Ed. He wants to tax people who are productive and make jobs and give it to people who are not productive and just end up sucking off the government tit.

His message last night was that people need the government to do things for them. He also said that he was going to increase taxes on people who make under $200,000 instead of the $250,000 he promised before. And Biden said $150,000. It just keeps dropping and dropping and while you and I may never make $250,000 this drop is getting dangerously close to what I make now. And I am definitely middle class.

I don’t know about you but I want a man who is going to provide for a strong national defense and keep taxes low. The rest of it doesn’t really matter to me. McCain is that man.

CBS said today that he cannot possibly do the things he is saying he will do with the money he will get from taxing the “rich.” So he is either going to not do the things he said he is going to do or he will have to raise taxes on more people. Let’s see, which do you think he will do.

  6. Oh and Ed, I notice you didn’t mention that Barry pretty much lied throughout his infomercial. What’s up with that?

  7. You like McCain’s pork barrel approach to cutting the budget … what’s that less than 1% … oh that will get us out of debt by the year 5000 ? What did he lie about ? You’re rather vague on that point.

  8. Ed, if you clicked on the link of the sampling you would know. It’s not my damn job to educate you.

  9. Aaaaaaaarrrgggghhh !!!!
    Evading the issue again …

I guess I’ll have to go back and find the link to whatever right wing wacko blog poisoned your intellect.
