Feeling Very Grinch-like

Posted by TRO on December 8, 2007

If you’ve been reading me for any time at all you know I used to have a dog named Butler.  Butler passed away in July of this year after coming to us as a foundling 10 years ago so as you can imagine it was a big loss to our family.  Well, we know we wanted another dog, but we haven’t really been looking hard because we wanted it to just “happen” like it happened with Butler and also because we just weren’t sure we were ready.

Well, today we were out shopping and we noticed a guy on the side of the road by the mall who had several Beagle puppies for sale.  We joked about checking them out, but went shopping instead and then after all that we decided to go back and take a look at them.  Only when we arrived there was only one left and a couple was looking at him.

We walked up as they were leaving and the man said they were going to think about it and maybe come back with the money to buy him - $100.   So we looked at the puppy, held him, played with him, and both of us suddenly realized we wanted him very much.  We talked to the man, telling him our whole life story and all about Butler and our 3 acres and our 12 year old son and how the puppy would have a great time at our place and generally bonding with both him and the puppy.   Only, like the other couple we didn’t have any cash to on us so I had to rush to an ATM to get the money.

Now, all the looking and holding and playing took about forty minutes and then it took me another ten minutes to get to an ATM and back while loving wife held the puppy - our puppy - but as I parked my car and got out to walk the twenty feet or so over to them, the other couple, the ones who left, drove up and said they had their money.  The man looked at us, and then at them, and then told us they were here first and he took the puppy and gave it to them

What a bastard.

They left and they took almost an hour to come back.  My wife stayed while I went and came back in ten minutes.  And they said they deserved him over us.

The assholes.

So we left, looking like someone had, well, had stolen our puppy, which they had, the fricken jerks.   And I am still so upset about the whole damn thing I don’t even care if this post is well-written.

Christmas just sucks now.

It will get better, but for now it just sucks.
